Chankya National Law University (CNLU) is a public law university located in Patna, Bihar, India. It is a renowned university established in 2006 by Bihar state government which offers five-year law courses. It has a campus spread over 18 acres of land. Admissions to the undergraduate (UG) B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) and & B.B.A LL.B (Hons.) program are conducted through the Common Law Admission Tests. Total 138 seats are offered excluding supernumerary seats for NRIs/Foreign Nationals/Kashmiri Pandits.
The University offers five years integrated undergraduate B.A. LL.B (Hons.) & B.B.A LL.B (Hons.) degree programs and one year Master of Laws (LL.M) program. The University also offers research programs Ph.D., D. Phil. and LL.D. Not the least, postgraduate diploma courses in human rights, child rights, corporate philanthropy and social responsibility, cyber law and intellectual property rights have also been launched by the University from the current academic year. The integrated 5-year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) programs are open to students who have completed their 12 years of school education and have joined CNLU after clearing the CLAT examination.
These courses offer integrated degrees of bachelor of arts/bachelor of business administration and law and entail studying compulsory subjects, honours subjects and electives. These courses are based on a credits system with additional seminar courses for further learning, pursuant according to the interests of the students. The program consists of approximately sixty subjects to be studied over the duration of ten semesters, with five subjects in each semester.
In 2022 from the India Today’s ranking CNLU Law was ranked 15th among 61 colleges in India. In 2021, it held the same rank of 15th, but among 65 colleges in India. Also, according to IIRF 2023, CNLU Law was ranked 36th among 39 colleges in India.
CNLU actively participate in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities, including moot court competitions, debating championships, and other inter-institutional events. These opportunities allow students to refine their skills, learn from peers, and connect with professionals. Students themselves organize two annual moot court competitions—one on cyber law and another on Anti-Trust laws—in collaboration with regulators. These competitions draw participants from law schools across India. CNLU teams have also taken part in and achieved awards in numerous national and international moot court competitions. In addition to moot court, CNLU hosts the Parliamentary and British Parliamentary Debating Championships. These competitions enable students to cultivate critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork skills. CNLU debating teams have also excelled in both national and international competitions.
