An analogy is drawn to compare two or more things.
The questions on analogy that you may face in CLAT will expect you to complete such a comparison.
You will be given two words with a relationship between them and a third word. You will have to determine which one of the options provided to you when paired with the third word will create a relationship similar to that existing between the first two words.
You may also be given one set of words and asked to find another set with a similar relationship between them. It may seem a little complicated in theory so let our CLAT coaching in Kolkata help you understand this with the help of some examples.
- Cow: Milk:: Hen: Egg
In the first set, there is a relationship between the words because a cow produces milk.
In the second set, there is a relationship between the words because a hen produces eggs. The common element of both sets is that they present the producer as the first word and the produce as the second word.
- Sphygmomanometer: Blood pressure:: Pedometer: Footsteps
In the first set, there is a relationship between the words because sphygmomanometer measures blood pressure.
In the second set, there is a relationship between the words because a pedometer measures footsteps. The common element of both sets is that they present the measuring device as the first word and the thing that is measured as the second word.
- New: Old:: Day: Night
In the first set, there is a relationship between the words because they are antonyms.
In the second set too, there is a relationship between the words because they are antonyms. The common element of both sets is that they contain antonyms.
