The Sahitya Akademi awards writers for their literary efforts. Writers whose works are composed in any of the major languages recognized by the Sahitya Akademi are considered for these awards. The Sahitya Akademi Awards and Bhasha Samman winners are given a plaque in addition to a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000. Other awards conferred by the Sahitya Akademi include Bal Sahitya Puraskar and Yuva Puraskar.
